Introduction

By now it has been more than one month since this bug has been registered:

Error 126: The specified module could not be found. (Oracle in instantclient_23_5, C:\oracle\instantclient_23_5\SQORA32.dll)

The error occurs when a connection attempt is made, for example, from ODBC Test Connection.

The bug report identifies the cause as a missing library, libmmd.dll in the Oracle Instant Client installer. If you are unable to wait for the fix, the library is in fact shipped with other Oracle packages, such as Oracle Database Express Edition (XE) Release 18c:

The library can be found in, for example, C:\app\ora\product\18.0.0\dbhomeXE\bin\libmmd.dll
Copy it to C:\Oracle\instantclient_23_5, or wherever you installed your Instant Client

No doubt, it should not be long before the fix arrives, but if you are in a pickle...
