Synopsis

In this document, we compare the output of the SGH-i780 GPS against the SiRFstar III.

Hardware

Qualcomm MSM6260 with GPS ("gpsOne").

Setting Up GPS

As is usual in Windows Mobile 6.1, go to Settings | System | External GPS:
  • GPS Program Port - COM2 seems a safe choice.
  • GPS hardware port - COM9 seems to be the port for the installed GPS.
  • GPS hardware baud - 4800 is a good try since NMEA hardware output at 4800, and the GPS output is NMEA format.

Conclusions

The Qualcomm MSM6260 does not generate an internal date and time if it cannot acquire GPS signals.

This is somewhat different from the SiRFstar III.
